Presentation Description / Summary: This presentation will overview some of the recent findings related to hypocalcemia at the individual cow and herd level. Key topics will include rational treatment of clinical and subclinical hypocalcemia, implications of subclinical and secondary hypocalcemia, new prospects for on-farm diagnosis of hypocalcemia, and herd-level prevention strategies.

Upon completion, participants will be able to distinguish between clinical, subclinical, primary, and secondary forms of hypocalcemia and develop appropriate strategies to characterize each form.
Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize the clinical significance of transient, persistent, and delayed subclinical hypocalcemia after calving.
Upon completion, participants will be able to develop appropriate treatment and prevention protocols for the various forms of hypocalcemia.
