Consensus Statement: Controlling Zoonotic Infections in Veterinary Personnel

Presentation Description / Summary: Prevention of the transmission of zoonotic diseases is an ever-present challenge in the practice of veterinary medicine, and even more so in an educational setting when training students and working with novice practitioners. This consensus statement intends to summarize the current understanding of the zoonotic prevention efforts in educational settings and to provide consensus on ‘best-practices’ for key prevention strategies when evidence is lacking. To develop this consensus statement, a systematic literature review was performed and the quality of the evidence was assessed, using predefined criteria, by a 6-member panel representing both the ACVIM and ACVPM. Knowledge gaps are being identified and consensus on ‘best-practices’ will be developed using the Delphi technique. This session will provide an overview of the process used in developing this consensus statement and to report findings of the systematic review.
