Presentation Description / Summary: Lecture will provide a practical, evidence-based perspective on both overall management strategies (e.g. rhythm control vs. rate control) and optimal target heart rates for in-hospital and long-term management of atrial fibrillation in dogs.

Learner Outcomes: 1. Be able to discuss the pros and cons of rhythm vs rate control when atrial fibrillation is identified in your patient 2. Be able to discuss pharmacologic management strategies to achieve rate control, and be aware of the latest data on target heart rates for both acute and chronic management of atrial fibrillation

Learning Objectives:

Recognize and correctly assess the heart rate in atrial fibrillation by various methods
Understand the pros and cons of rate vs. rhythm control strategies in atrial fibrillation.
Understand and utililze the evidence for optimal heart rate control in your practice
