Presentation Description / Summary: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate protein expression. They are present in tissue as well as various biofluids, including urine. Urinary miRNAs have been investigated as biomarkers for chronic kidney diseases in human medicine. Recent studies in veterinary medicine have shown that they are promising biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for chronic kidney disease in dogs and cats.
Learner Outcomes:
1. Understand miRNA and its functions 2. Able to explain why miRNA is a valuable biomarker 3. Familiarize yourself with recent veterinary studies on urinary miRNA and chronic kidney disease
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe what is microRNA and the function of microRNA
Upon completion, participant will be able to explain why miRNA can serve as a valuable biomarker
Upon completion, participant will be able to recall recent veterinary studies on urinary miRNA and chronic kidney disease
