Parallels in Treating Sepsis between Horses and People

Presentation Description / Summary: There are many parallels between equine and human sepsis, with human sepsis research advances often informing novel approaches in equine sepsis research. However, the mainstays of treatment and survival rates of equine sepsis remain largely unchanged. This presentation will explore recent advances in the treatment and management of human sepsis and their potential in informing equine sepsis research and the clinical management of equine sepsis cases. This presentation will also touch on key differences between human and equine sepsis, and how this can limit translation of advances in the management of human sepsis to horses.

Explain what new advances have been made in human sepsis research and how these might be useful in the management of equine sepsis. 3.
