This session will discuss current thoughts on the syndrome of airway collapse and methods of testing to confirm or deny a definitive diagnosis of the syndrome in dogs. It will also consider methods that can be used to identify concurrent conditions that can exacerbate cough in affected dogs, including chronic bronchitis, lymphocytic inflammatory airway disease, airway infection, and aspiration injury.
• Predict disease processes and conditions that can exacerbate cough in dogs with airway collapse
• Distinguish between inspiratory and expiratory respiratory breathing patterns in dogs with cough and predict the importance of this finding in relation to the diagnosis of airway collapse
• Construct a diagnostic decision tree for the dog suspected of tracheobronchomalacia
• Critique the effect of anesthesia in diagnostic testing for airway collapse
