Urs Giger received his veterinary degree from the University of Zürich, completed his residency at the University of Florida, and then joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania. He has a secondary appointment in veterinary medicine at the University of Zürich. He is a diplomate of the American and European College of the Veterinary Internal Medicine, as well as a diplomate of the European College of Clinical Pathology. Among other awards, he is the recipient of the WSAVA International Scientific Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Bourgelat Award from the BSAVA, the AVMA Excellence in Feline Research Award, and the International Canine Health Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been a clinician and has researched many hereditary and blood disorders as well aspects of transfusion medicine.
