Prof. Gunther van Loon graduated from Ghent University in 1992 and has worked at Large Animal Internal Medicine Ghent University ever since. In 2001 he finished his PhD on atrial fibrillation in horses. He became ECEIM Diplomate (2004) and Associate Member of ECVDI (2011). In 2015 he received the BEVA award for ‘Clinical Research’ and the Merial Applied Equine Research Award for research regarding ‘Advances in Equine Cardiology’ from WEVA. He is head of the Large Animal Internal Medicine Department and the Equine Cardioteam. He is past-President and board-member of the Belgian Equine Practitioners Society (BEPS).
