Dr. Frank grew up in the United Kingdom and then trained in the United States. He received his BSc. Honors degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina in 1989 and his DVM degree from Purdue University in 1993. After working for two years in private equine practice in Illinois, Dr. Frank returned to Purdue University in 1995 to complete his residency training and PhD degree. Dr. Frank is a board-certified large animal internal medicine specialist and in 2002 he joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee and developed research programs in the areas of equine endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, and laminitis. He also took a part-time teaching position at the University of Nottingham from 2006 to 2015. In 2011, Dr. Frank moved to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University to become chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. In 2017, Dr. Frank moved into the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and although the majority of his time is spent on administration, he continues to teach, conduct research, and consult on clinical cases.
