I received my BSc degree in Animal Sciences at the University of Parma in 2014 and then my MSc in Biotechnology for Food Science at the University of Padua in 2016. My Master thesis focused on the effect of different cysteine precursors on the performance and oxidative status of finishing broiler under heat stress. The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Joris Michiels, during an internship at the University of Ghent, Belgium. In 2017 I worked as a Research Assistant, at the University of Udine where I build up bioinformatic skills and bacterial growing since I was involved in a bacteria genome editing study. In 2018 I started the PhD program in Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences at the Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental and Animal Sciences (DI4A), University of Udine. The aim of my research project was the study of the gut microbial modulation in dogs and, consequently, the adaptive response of the microbiome-gut-brain axis, with a focus on the understanding of the existing interactions between the host and the gut microbiome. The collaboration with researchers from all over the world has helped me widen my scientific skills and qualities through. During this time, I had the opportunity to study the microbiome and reconcile my love for animals while working as a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. At the end of my PhD, I had the chance to start working at AnimalBiome as a postdoctoral researcher.
