Dr. O’Kell is a board-certified internal medicine specialist who has excelled in both academia and private practice. At PetDx, she serves as a vet-to-vet resource for OncoK9 clinical use consultations and supports clinical research studies. After graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, she completed her internship, residency, and master’s degree at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
In addition to practicing internal medicine, Dr. O’Kell has extensive experience with clinical research, and has studied novel disease biomarkers and canine diabetes pathogenesis. She was awarded a prestigious National Institutes of Health Career Development Award in 2018 to support this research. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, presented at a variety of conferences, educated many veterinary students, and provided CE for the veterinary community.
A lover of the outdoors, Dr. O’Kell enjoys hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, and kayaking. She spends time with her three rescue Labrador Retrievers, Dash, Misha, and Millie, and has volunteered for many years with a Labrador rescue, including as a member of the Board of Directors.
