Glenn Van Steenkiste, graduated in July 2016 at Ghent University (Belgium), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Equine specialization. He started working at the Department of Large Animal Internal Medicine, Equine Cardioteam in October 2016 with special interest in cardiac electrophysiology. In January 2017 I started a PhD, funded by FWO-Flanders, titled ‘Equine arrhythmias: innovations that improve diagnosis, horse welfare and rider’s safety’. During his PhD he received the Voorjaarsdagen BEVA award and the AVEF scientific poster award. He finished his PhD in 2020 after which he started his post-doc at the same group, mainly focussing on the integration of signal processing, deep learning and the digitization of veterinary medicine. Building on his PhD research, he helped to further develop the technique of electro-anatomical mapping and treatment by ablation in horses with new state-of-the-art equipment. The first patient treated with this novel therapy led to international media attention. he also actively helped start the same research project in dogs at Ghent University.
