Presentation Description / Summary: This lecture will cover the change in conventional wisdom regarding tracheal collapse that has occurred over the last 2 decades. We now have a better understanding of the different forms of tracheal collapse, the pathogenesis of the disease, its relationship with bacterial infections, the prognosis with medical management, and the benefits and risks of surgery/stenting. Additionally, we have new information regarding bronchial collapse versus bronchial compression and how this could affect bronchial stenting.
Learner Outcomes: 1) Understand the different types of canine tracheal collapse and why this matters! 2) Appreciate the prognosis of these different types of conditions in order to better advice our clients and treat our patients. 3) Understand the benefits of medical and/or surgical/interventional therapies for these different tracheal collapse types 4) Learn the best way to manage this disease and identify problems before they get out of control!
