Canine hypoadrenocorticism can be effectively treated but many cases develop iatrogenic hypercortisolism. Using the results of a cross-over trial and the scientific literature the limitations of using current techniques for dose adjustment will be explored and an optimised approach to effective monitoring and dose adjustment will be presented. Delegates will be able to vote using anonymous interactive software to enable these principles to be illustrated and discussed more fully.
Learning Objectives:
Understand how the measurement of sodium and potassium may be used to monitor the mineralocorticoid deficiency of hypoadrenocorticism
Develop skills in clinical assessment that may be used to monitor the glucocorticoid deficiency of hypoadrenocorticism
Understand how to adjust doses of DOCP and prednisone/prednisolone to minimise long term side effects
