Presentation Description / Summary: Cardiomyopathy is a heterogeneous group of diseases affecting the heart muscle whose dominant features include structural and functional abnormalitis. Cardiomyopathies represent more than 90% of feline heart disease. Cardiomyopathies are exceedingly complex disorders and often, they do not fit into a simple morphologic category. These diseases are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality and high economic burden for pet owners. The present lecture will teach how to approach heart disease in the cat including diasgnostic criteria, echo/xray/ecg features; how to monitor over time. And best practice therapies to manage acute and chronic heart failure.

Learner Outcomes: Learn how to accurately diagnose and stage each form of cardiomyopathy How to consider therapy and follow up monitoring

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to clinically distinguish between HCM, HOCM, DCM, ARVC, and RCM.
  • Update and review the major and most contemporary data relative to cardiac morbidity and survival in cats with cardiomyopathy.
  • Review therapies and data supporting their use.
