Presentation Description / Summary: This lecture will go over how to distinguish Addison's disease/hypoadrenocorticism vs. gastrointestinal upset from when the patient first presents to admitting them to the hospital. It will also go over ACTH stimulation testing protocols, and Addison's disease treatments.

Learner Outcomes: They will know what to look for on bloodwork to suspect Addison's Disease, leading to further testing. They will learn the different clinical signs and vital abnormalities that will differentiate hypoadrenocorticism from gastrointestinal upset. They will learn how to perform an ACTH stimulation test, and learn the treatments options of Addison's disease. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to identify bloodwork abnormalities that point to hypoadrenocorticism.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to list the common vital sign abnormalities that differentiate gastrointestinal upset vs. hypoadrenocorticism.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to properly perform an ACTH stimulation test.
