Presentation Description / Summary: The clinical utility of fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is rapidly growing in veterinary medicine. During this session participants will learn important technical aspects of performing FMT in dogs and cats. We will review FMT formulations, including differences and similarities between fresh, frozen, and lyophilized FMT products. Routes of FMT administrations including oral capsule, endoscopic, and enema FMT will be discussed. A stepwise protocol for FMT administration will be presented. Finally, during this session we will review the current evidence-based clinical indications for FMT in companion animals.

Learning Objectives:

Compare and contrast the different FMT formulations (fresh vs frozen vs lyophilized) and routes of administration (oral capsular vs endoscopic vs enema).
Explain the technical protocol for administering an FMT to a dog and cat.
Understand the clinical indications for FMT in dogs and cats.
