Performing and Measuring Canine Transthoracic Echocardiograms

Presentation Description / Summary: This presentation reviews updated standards for obtaining and measuring 2D and M-mode echocardiograms in dogs. Case examples are used to demonstrate the clinical relevance of the image planes. Following this session the Participant should be able to describe the nomenclature related to 2D imaging; recognize the standard 2D and M-mode image planes and incorporated structures; describe methods of allometric scaling and indexing when applied to canine echocardiograms; discuss the pitfalls and solutions related to M-mode echocardiographic assessment of left ventricular function; and recognize common canine cardiac diseases identified through standard imaging planes.
