Presentation Description / Summary: In this interactive panel discussion, we will discuss the management of various common, and frustrating, scenarios seen in the patient with pancreatitis. Perspectives from an internist, criticalist, and nutritionist will be combined to provide a rich and diverse conversation steeped in both evidence and experience. Specifically, we aim to address issues surrounding pancreatitis that: 1) is constantly regurgitating; 2) has unmanageable pain; 3) needs to be transitioned to outpatient care; 4) is a chronic re-offender; and 5) develops respiratory complications.

Learner Outcomes: 

At the end of this discussion, attendees will be able to:



  1. List common causes for regurgitation in pancreatitis and strategies to address it

  2. Describe alternative pain management strategies for severe pancreatitis pain

  3. Create a practical management plan for at-home care of the pancreatitis patient

  4. Develop a diagnostic plan to investigate a patient re-presenting with pancreatitis

  5. Design a diagnostic and therapeutic plan for the pancreatitis patient with respiratory compromise
