Presentation Description / Summary: Specialists could/should be playing a larger role in community medicine, particularly as many of them and our employers are working towards a broader goal of diversity, equity and inclusion. Community medicine could be a perfect intersection of specialty care and DEI. When engaging with a community that would not otherwise have access to specialists as a resource, they are helping to build a potential pipeline of new students and interacting in our communities in a meaningful way.

  • Identify barriers clients face in accessing veterinary care.
  • Explore the role of the veterinary practice in providing a spectrum of care approach to meet clients’ diverse needs and preferences.
  • Identify barriers or perceived risks veterinary teams face in providing a spectrum of care approach.
  • Explore opportunities for primary and tertiary care providers and animal welfare organizations to collaborate in making care more accessible for pet owners.
