New Treatment Options in Canine Lymphoma

Presentation Description / Summary: This lecture will discuss the current standard of care for the treatment of lymphoma being CHOP based chemotherapy. However, this is not always feasible due to owner preference or the inability of the practice to meet the safety requirements. Currently, in the primary care setting, for owners not wishing to pursue a standard of care, few options exist to be offered other than prednisone.
Internal data through Anivive suggests 80% of dogs with lymphoma are left untreated. Laverdia CA-1 (verdinexor) is a novel oral medication designed for the treatment of canine lymphoma. We will discuss the class of drug, mechanism of action, and where this author sees the drug fitting into the primary care setting with the hope that its use will represent an unmet need in veterinary medicine and expand access to treatment for patients that otherwise may have received no other therapies.

Specifically, we will discuss Laverdia CA-1, the data behind its conditional approval, current label recommendations, and where we see this drug fitting into the primary care doctor's arsenal.
