Presentation Description / Summary: In this presentation, practitioners will review current developments in pharmacology aimed at application for the individual swine patient. Recent research for pain management, peri-anesthetic management, and antimicrobials will be covered. The focus will be on production pig breeds, as well as companion miniature pig breeds. Navigating the current US regulatory environment, with respect to the status of the individual swine patient as a food animal in addition to a potential companion animal, as well as the role of veterinary in the decision-making process will be explored. Clinicians and the clinic care team will leave this presentation with a broader understanding of new developments in swine pharmacology as well as how to utilize these innovations in an effective an judicious manner in the individual pig presented to an internist.
