Presentation Description / Summary: This case-based presentation will focus on feline patients with cancer where H&E staining does not reveal the diagnosis. To understand how immunohistochemical stains will benefit these cats, we will discuss the biological concepts behind immunohistochemical staining and the clinical information this test will provide. These concepts will be reinforced by case presentations of actual cases where immunobiological staining was used to confirm the diagnosis of a specific tumor type.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion the participants will understand when pathologists recommend immunohistochemical staining of biopsy samples.
  • Upon completion, the partcipants will be able to describe how various immunohistochemical stains differentiate between tumor types.
  • Upcn completion, the participants will be able to appropriately requests immunohistochemical staining based on the information derived from cases reviewed in this presentation.
