Presentation Description / Summary: This talk will discuss clinical strategies that will increase the likelihood of an accurate histopathologic diagnosis and margin evaluation of canine melanocytic tumors. The most current pathologic prognostic factors, histopathologic evaluation of regional lymph nodes, and potential future diagnostic and prognostic methods will also be described.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to optimize biopsy collection techniques and understand the latest in diagnostic tools for obtaining an accurate diagnosis for suspected canine melanocytic neoplasms.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to use the most current pathologic prognostic parameters to prognosticate dogs with melanocytic neoplasms.
  • Upon completion, participants will be familiar with potential future molecular prognostic parameters for dogs with melanocytic neoplasms.
