Presentation Description / Summary: Feline chronic enteropathies (FCE) are a frequent finding in internal medicine. Among their different subtypes, Feline Eosinophilic Sclerosing Fibroplasia can be a diagnostic challenge and Low-grade Intestinal T-cell Lymphoma is now recognized as an emerging disease in aged cats.

The diagnostic approach of FCE implies strong interactions between different specialists, particularly in some cases.
The aims of the session will be :


  • - define the different subtypes of FCE

  • - mention the recent literature data

  • - complete an adequate diagnostic workup and identify comorbidities if present

  • - define the main ultrasonographic lesions of the different subtypes of FCE

  • - describe the macroscopic lesions and the appropriate sampling methods  (laparotomy versus endoscopy ?)

  • - understand histopathology, special stains and immunohistochemistry challenges notably (1) to diagnose Feline Eosinophilic Sclerosing Fibroplasia    (2) to differentiate Lymphoplasmacytic enteritis and Low-grade Intestinal T-cell Lymphoma

  • - highlight the indications and limitations of clonality analysis in this context.

  • - suggest a decision-tree.



Learner Outcomes:

- gain more insights into the different subtypes of chronic feline enteropathies
- have a better understanding of the differential diagnosis.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to differentiate the different subtypes of Feline Chronic Enteropathies
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to conduct an appropriate diagnostic workup
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to define the current keypoints to differentiate inflammatory chronic enteropathies and low-grade intestinal T-cell lymphomas.
