This session focuses on understanding and performing CPR in equine neonates and small animals. The talk will focus on: preparedness, recognizing the at-risk patient, basic life support and the post-cardiac arrest care.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the importance and components of preparedness including: prestocked arrest stations, cognitive aids and standardized training. Understand how to recognize the at-risk patient including prioritizing the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest. Understand the common associated co-morbidities that predispose a patient to cardiopulmonary arrest.
Understand the principles of basic life support including chest compressions, airway management and ventilation.
Understand the essential components of post-cardiac arrest patient monitoring and therapy including utilization of fluid therapy, vasoprssor and inotropes, ventilation, oxygenation, and supportive measures.
