Diagnostic Imaging: Combining the Perspectives of Internists and Imaging Specialists

Presentation Description / Summary: Diagnostic imaging is an integral part of achieving a diagnosis and monitoring treatment in Equine internal medicine. Clinicians need to choose the most appropriate imaging modalities for a case and then interpret the findings in the context of the primary complaint. Availability and quality of diagnostic imaging modalities has greatly improved in Equine medicine with high-performing ultrasonography and endoscopy being well established in the diagnostic repertoire. Low and high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) carried out on standing or anesthetized horses is now also widely available. The case-based presentation will focus on challenging and complex cases that require close interaction between the internal medicine and diagnostic imaging specialists highlighting how the different approaches chosen by specialists in different areas can be used for the benefits of the clinical cases. Principles of imaging of different body areas and modalities will be woven into the case discussion. The audience will be invited to participate in image interpretation and case management discussion via an audience response system.
