Presentation Description / Summary: This lecture is geared towards understanding primary liver function and how liver disease can predispose patients to increased risks during anesthesia. We will discuss common liver dysfunction (IHPSS & EHPSS, hepatic lipidosis, tumors) Understanding anticipated problems and how to manage them will be the key concept of this lecture. This lecture is to help technicians create a safe, balanced anesthetic plan for their patients. We will discuss monitoring parameters and equipment needed for monitoring.
Learner Outcomes: 1) Understanding liver function, commonly seen diseases and increased risks during anesthesia. 2) Creating an anesthetic plan tailored specifically to each patient's needs and create goals for balanced anesthesia. 3) Anticipating and managing complications that may arise during anesthesia.
Learning Objectives:
To understand and aquire knowledge on how patients with hepatic insuficiency or tumors are affected by general anesthesia.
To create a specialized anesthetic protocol to manage patients with hepatic insufciency or liver tumors.
To anticipate both iatrogenic and physiologic problems that may arise, and how to appropriately circumvent them during general anesthesia.
