Presentation Description / Summary: Canine gliomas, both high and low grade, have historically had very limited median survival times (MST). There are accounts that treat unconfirmed intracranial gliomas; however, only accounts that include a diagnosis by microscopic evaluation are included. Avenues of therapy include surgery alone, radiation alone, chemotherapy alone, and any of the combinations of these. Recently, immunotherapies have also been translated from human protocols and show some promise, especially with the addition of adjunct and novel chemotherapies This presentation will review the advantages and disadvantages of the numerous approaches described in the literature and review the MST reported for each.
Learner Outcomes: 1) To gain an understanding of the current treatment modalities and ongoing trials for gliomas in dogs 2) To compare the various MST for different treatment modalities and combination of treatment modalities 3) To consider the value of more multi-institutional studies to determine a more systematic approach to treatment.
